Tadeusz Wojciechowski

Wojciechowski graduated from the Fryderyk Chopin Academy of Music in Warsaw with two diplomas: from the cello class of Andrzej Orkisz and from the conducting class of Stanisław Wisłocki. He perfected his cello skills with Bernard Michelin at the Conservatoire National Supérieur de Musique et de Danse in Paris. At that time, the artist collaborated with such establishments as the Orchestre de l'Opéra Royal de Versailles, Les Musiciens de Paris, the Orchestre des Concerts Pasdeloup, the Orchestre Colonne and the Orchestre du Conservatoire de Paris. He has been a winner at a number of competitions: as a cellist he won the second prize at the Dezyderiusz Danczowski National Cello Competition in Poznań (1974), as a chamber player ? the third prize at the International Gaudeamus Interpreters Competition in Rotterdam (1973), and as a conductor ? the second prize at the International Besançon Competition for Young Conductors (1979) as well as the third prize and the Minister of Culture and Art Prize at the Grzegorz Fitelberg International Competition for Conductors in Katowice (1979).

In 1976-1977, Wojciechowski was music director of Jerzy Maksymiuk?s Polish Chamber Orchestra (currently Sinfonia Varsovia), with whom he made several tours, e.g. in Italy, Germany and the United Kingdom as well as recordings released by EMI. In 1976, he started his cooperation as a conductor with the Grand Theatre (Teatr Wielki) in Warsaw. In 1982, he was invited to work at the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen, where he was principal conductor between 1983 and 1996. During those years, he performed at such prestigious worldwide opera theatres as the Metropolitan Opera House in New York, Teatro La Fenice in Venice, the Teatro Carlo Felice in Genoa, the Royal Swedish Opera House in Stockholm and the Oslo Opera House. In 1994, he became director of the Polish Radio Orchestra and Choir in Kraków, where he remained until the dissolution of the ensemble. Soon afterwards, he was invited by the Grand Theatre National Opera in Warsaw, where he worked as director until 1996. Since 2002, he was head and principal conductor of the Pomeranian Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra.

The artist has performed throughout Europe: in Germany, France, the United Kingdom, Luxembourg, Belgium, Denmark, Norway, Sweden, Slovenia, Turkey and Italy, as well as in the United States, Mexico, Colombia and Japan. He has collaborated with a vast majority of the symphony orchestras in Poland, most notably with Sinfonia Varsovia. He is also the first guest conductor of the Latvian National Opera in Riga and he regularly cooperates with the Bavarian State Opera in Munich, the Royal Danish Opera in Copenhagen and the Royal Swedish Opera in Stockholm. He has made numerous recordings for Polish Radio and the DR radio from Denmark. His repertoire comprises more than forty operas in addition to all the major symphonic works.
