Pedro Pablo Cámara

The artist has had comprehensive and broad musical training after having worked closely with great musicians in different fields and places: he did his saxophone training with Marcus Weiss in Switzerland and Vicente Toldos, José Miguel Cantero and Andrés Gomis in Spain; and he developed his chamber music skills with Ferenc Rados, Claudio Martínez Mehner, Rainer Schmidt, Eberhard Feltz and Sergio Azzolini at the Hochschule für Musik in Basel. He also obtained his bachelor?s degree in musicology from the University of La Rioja in Logro?o and a diploma in music pedagogy from the Complutense University of Madrid.

Cámara has won more than 20 international competitions, such as Wettbewerb BOG in Basel, the Orpheus Swiss Chamber Music Competition in Basel, the Kiefer Hablitzel Göhner Musikpreis in Berne, the Concours Nicati in Berne, the Lyceum Club International de Suisse Music Competition in Lausanne and the Montserrat Alavedra Chamber Music Competition in Barcelona. He has participated in festivals such as the Festival Internacional Cervantino in Guanajuato, the Darmstadt International Summer Courses for New Music in Darmstadt, the Klangwerkstatt Festival in Berlin, the Festival für Neues Musiktheater ?Infektion!? in Berlin, the Impuls Academy in Graz, the MUSEG Festival in Segovia, the Swiss Chamber Music Festival in Adelboden, the Montreux Jazz Festival in Montreux and Lucerne Festival in Lucerne. He also collaborates with formations of a bigger format, such as the European Philharmonic of Switzerland, the Lucerne Festival Academy Orchestra, the Frankfurt Radio Symphony and the Mahler Chamber Orchestra. He has worked with such world-leading conductors as Simon Rattle and Pablo Heras-Casado.

Pedro Pablo Cámara is currently a professor at the Centro Superior Katarina Gurska in Madrid and he also teaches at the International Community Music School in Basel. As a guest, he has been invited to the master classes held at the Hochschule für Musik und Theater in Munich, the Universität der Künste in Berlin, the Universität für Musik und darstellende Kunst in Graz, the Prince Claus Conservatoire in Groningen, the Hochschule für Musik in Basel and Hong Kong Baptist University in Hong Kong, amongst others. His continuous development of the musical language has produced an extensive corpus of new works for saxophone; they have been the fruits of his close collaboration with such composers as Abel Paul, José María Sánchez-Verdú, Óscar Escudero, Camilo-Andrés Méndez San Juan, Andreas Frank, José Luis Torá and Germán Alonso. He is currently working on a series of recordings as both a soloist and a chamber musician. He has published four CDs as a solo artist. He is an artist of Henri Selmer Paris, Vandoren Paris and Silverstein Works.
