The President of the Republic of Poland becomes the honorary patron of International Competition of Polish Music

Warsaw, Poland (April 23, 2021)

Applications for the Competition can only be submitted until 14 May. The event will take place at the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic Hall in Rzeszów between 11 and 18 September 2021. The participants will contest in two categories: for pianists and for chamber ensembles, with the total prize money exceeding 80,000 euros.

For the second time, the Stanisław Moniuszko International Competition of Polish Music has been put under the Honorary Patronage of President Andrzej Duda. In his letter, Wojciech Kolarski, a minister in the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland, emphasised that the Competition ?as a cultural enterprise, has successfully popularised the oeuvre of Stanisław Moniuszko, an eminent composer, conductor, teacher and the father of the Polish national opera. The event will also be an opportunity to present works written by lesser-known nineteenth- and twentieth-century Polish composers to a wide audience and an occasion to promote talented pianists and chamber ensembles from Poland and abroad?.

The participants create individual programmes to perform in the successive stages of the Competition, selected from amongst works written by no fewer than 56 Polish composers. This repertoire, exceptional and, in many cases, largely unknown, is later promoted in concert practice by the participants and winners of the Competition.

The Competition invites instrumental musicians applying as soloists (in the piano category) or chamber ensembles (from two to twelve members). There are no age or citizenship restrictions for the participants. The jury in both categories consists of distinguished Polish and foreign musicians and musical personalities. This year, the jury in the piano category will be headed by Jarosław Drzewiecki and in the chamber ensemble category by Andrzej Tatarski.

? We didn?t expect this competition to become such a springboard for us. We?ve received a host of invitations to concerts and tours. We?ve been to Beijing, for example. Ever since we won the Stanisław Moniuszko International Competition of Polish Music, we?ve managed to garner eighteen other awards, including eleven first prizes and six Grands Prix ? enthuse the duo Marta Gidaszewska and Robert Łaguniak, winners of the Competition in 2019.

The first edition of the Competition, held in 2019, attracted 81 participants from 6 countries. The piano category was won by Pavel Dombrovsky from Russia and the chamber ensemble category by a duo of violinists: Marta Gidaszewska and Robert Łaguniak, who currently perform as the Polish Violin Duo. The rulebook, framework schedule of the Competition, application forms, information on the repertoire, composers and sheet music, as well as all the updates, can be found on the dedicated website: www.polishmusiccompetition.pl.

The Competition is organised by the Institute of Music and Dance, and the Artur Malawski Podkarpacka Philharmonic in Rzeszów. It is funded by the Ministry of Culture, National Heritage and Sport of the Republic of Poland.
