The duo of Monika Krasicka-Gajownik and Piotr Filek was formed in 2020, when both musicians were doing their doctoral degrees at the Krzysztof Penderecki Academy of Music in Kraków. Monika Krasicka-Gajownik graduated with distinction from the same institution after completing her MA cello studies with Dominik Połon?ski. She has perfected her skills at numerous master classes. Since 2019, she has been studying chamber music with Chia Chou at the University of Music and Performing Arts Graz (KUG). As a chamber musician and a soloist, she has appeared at festivals in such music centres as Warsaw, Lusławice, Kraków and Klaip?da. This year, she has received the Young Poland programme scholarship granted by the Minister of Culture and National Heritage. Piotr Filek graduated with distinction from the Fryderyk Chopin University of Music in Warsaw, where he studied piano with Bronisława Kawalla and Lucjan Benisz. He has been a laureate at competitions held in Żagań (1997), Zabrze (1999), Mariánské Lázně (2001) and Warsaw (2002, 2004). In 2005, he qualified for the Fifteenth International Chopin Piano Competition in Warsaw. He has performed in Germany, Spain, the United Kingdom, France, Albania, Japan and Italy, as well as in a number of concert halls throughout Poland. He has been a double winner of the Minister of Culture and National Heritage scholarship. The Krasicka-Gajownik / Filek Duo first performed together at the Seventh Cello Spring in Kraków in 2020. In 2021, they have made a recording of compositions by Zygmunt Stojowski, Aleksander Tansman and Szymon Laks.
